I’m back again with a new post. Today’s one is going to be a bit different from the previous ones as I am not going to be talking to you guys about any event I have recently attended or any holidays I have just come back from. Instead today’s post is inspired by St. Valentine’s day and my thoughts on it.
Whenever I think of St. Valentine’s day I can’t help but immediately think of those who are totally against it as if it represented all the evil in the world. Their belief is that you don’t need such day to love someone, that every day is a good day to love your partner, and I agree. You don’t need a day to remind you about who you love, but nobody said that’s what St.Valentine’s day has to be about.
Of course, it’s a wonderful occasion for retailers, florists and restaurants to make some money off you, getting you to spend £50 on a bunch of roses, God knows how much on a Pandora bracelet (cause who can afford Cartier anyway?) or £80 on a fancy dinner, but it’s entirely up to you if you want to be spending money on this occasion or not.
The way I see it, St. Valentine’s day is just another day to remind the person you love that you truly do love them. And yes we all agree you don’t need St.Valentine’s day to do that, but what’s wrong with celebrating it if you feel like celebrating it?
As someone who was single for a very long time before meeting my boyfriend, I understand how frustrating this day can be; all I kept thinking about every year was how I didn’t have a partner to spend the day with. But this didn’t mean I didn’t have someone special to spend St. Valentine’s day with, and definitely did not mean that I’d hate on anyone who celebrated it and tried to depict them as the devil.
In fact I once spent St. Valentine’s day in a pub with two of my best friends and had an absolute blast. And another year, when I was still in high school, I bought all my classmates a little paper heart I had drawn for each one of them with some chocolates(ain’t I a romantic one hey?)
I’ve always been the type of person who loves any kind of occasion to celebrate and spread love.
So for those of you who don’t have a partner and hate on those who do I say: just chill and let people be! Your time will come 🙂
And for those of you who do have a partner I say : don’t feel guilty about making this day extra special for the one you love. Love is a wonderful thing and if you feel like this day gives you an extra reason to show your other half how much you love them, then do it.
And for those who do have a partner but still don’t believe in celebrating St. Valentine’s day: I’m sure you have your reasons.
Perhaps one day I will loose interest in this day, and will not feel like celebrating it, but for now I’m happy to still enjoy this day.
I had a fantastic surprise brunch with my boyfriend today and now I’m off to eat a LARGE Domino’s pizza while watching a movie with him, because it’s Valentine’s day innit?
Lot’s of love,
